We attended an intensive two-day phenology workshop hosted by the National Phenology Network and the USGS Powell Center last week. To improve the value of our data, we have increased the number of pairs of plant species we will observe in the park. Monitoring multiple individuals of a species/genus helps to reduce “noise” in the data. We’ve added four trees (American Sweetgum, Red Maple, Tuliptree, and White Oak). The White Oak is a genus counterpart to the Swamp White Oak. We’ve incorporated two shrubs; both are American Witch-hazels.
