We have been conducting a formal bird and wildlife survey in Washington Square Park under a permit from the NYC Parks Natural Resources Group since 2016. We have created the Washington Square Park Micro Hotspots Bird, using 8 years of data.

We submit an annual report of the previous year’s wildlife survey to the NYC Parks Natural Resources Group in the current calendar year.
Read the 2023 WSP Wildlife & Phenology Research Permit Report. This is our final report based on a biweekly survey schedule.

Biodiversity Counts in Your Greenspace
Would you like to collaborate with us? Through Local Nature Lab, we partner with green spaces in NYC to monitor biodiversity. For example, we conducted a long-term bird survey at the Naval Cemetery Landscape. Loyan Beausoleil investigated bird activity and species richness between June 2020 and May 2021.
